LAN8710A-EZC-TR is a highly integrated 10/100M Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) transceiver from Microchip (acquired via SMSC), in a compact QFN-32 package (3x3mm) with built-in 25MHz crystal oscillator, 1.8V/2.5V regulator and network transformer interface circuitry - minimal external components required.

The chip's standout feature is HP Auto-MDI/X - the industry's first automatic polarity detection and correction, eliminating TX+/TX- and RX+/RX- cable confusion and greatly simplifying field wiring. The chip is fully IEEE 802.3/802.3u compliant with Auto-Negotiation support.

LAN8710A supports MII/RMII/PMI MAC interfaces configurable via MODE pins. Compliant with Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard (IEEE 802.3az), it automatically enters low-power idle mode, consuming less than 315mW - ideal for power-sensitive IoT and green energy devices.

  • TX+/TX- (Pins 21/22): Transmit Differential Pair:Connect to transmit side of network transformer. Differential output driving 100Ω differential impedance trace. Series resistors (22~33Ω) near the chip recommended to reduce EMI radiation.
  • RX+/RX- (Pins 25/26): Receive Differential Pair:Connect to receive side of network transformer. On-chip termination - no external resistors needed. Trace requirements identical: 100Ω differential impedance control.
  • REFCLK (Pin 4): Reference Clock:50MHz bidirectional reference clock. Acts as output when MODE[2:0]=001 (chip provides clock); as input otherwise (external MAC provides clock).
  • RXD[0:3] (Pins 11-14): Receive Data:MII/RMII receive data bus; specific mode determined by configuration pins. Connect to corresponding data pins on MAC controller.
  • TXD[0:3] (Pins 6-9): Transmit Data:MII/RMII transmit data bus. Specific pin functions determined by MODE[2:0] configuration pins.
